Twitter Strategies are a Must!

June 24, 2009

twitter_logoHave you been twittering too much? Do you have a twitter strategy? Twitter is becoming more and more common as a tool for social interaction – especially in education.  There are quite a few discussions going on now about its usage in e-learning and even face to face.  There are good twitter strategies and then there are those that just tweet away and fill the twitter ‘inbox’ of their followers.

If we are going to see Twitter become a Web 2.0 tool that is widely adopted by educators (both teachers and administrators), then those that use and advocate the use will need to have effective Twitter strategies.  One can quickly become inundated with “tweets” and then become turned off with the information overload.  Here is an acutal quote from a session I attended in which Twitter was the “backchannel” for communication:

“I wasn’t diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder until after I tried to follow today’s session”

Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge advocate for these tools and their clear benefit for education transformation.  However, I can quickly see how administrators AND teachers can see this as a ‘disruptive technology‘ in a negative way, unless there is a clear strategy for its use.  I came across a few resources that I hope can help provide clear tweeting strategies for you.  I just don’t want to see these tools become Web 2.0 clutter that loses its impact on education.
